Thank You for Supporting CSM’s Mission
to Form Young Christian Lives!

CSM is held in a trust governed by an independent Board of Trustees. While the Archdiocese of Detroit had generously donated the services of one its priests for decades, they are not responsible for CSM financially. This means that we are responsible to secure our own funding to advance the mission that has been passed down to us since our founding in 1933. To continue this essential work, we need your help. Are you feeling called to donate? Thank you for your prayerful consideration!

Your gift today to CSM's Year-End Annual Appeal
will go even further in forming and transforming young lives.
An anonymous donor has agreed to match the contributions we receive up to $22,000!
Practically speaking, this DOUBLES your donation, turning your $50 gift into $100 for us, and your $250 donation into $500 for us!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! Your Annual Appeal donation will be DOUBLED thanks to an anonymous matching gift donor!

Each Thanksgiving, we gather together with family and friends to commemorate the traditional celebration of the harvest and other blessings of the past year, acknowledging with grateful hearts the many favors of our God.

“Thanks,” says G.K. Chesterton, “is the highest form of thought.”

We are thankful for so many blessings from the Lord, especially our wonderful family of friends and supporters. And so we offer to you, our Camp family, our most sincere thanks for your generous financial support, your prayers, and your gifts of time and talent for the children and grandchildren who attend CSM every summer.

Only through your kind support is CSM able to fulfill its mission to let God meet the deepest needs of today’s youth by forming and transforming young lives in a beautiful northern Michigan setting. Your response to this year’s Annual Appeal is especially important to provide young people a technology-free, safe, and faith-filled atmosphere packed with fun. Your gift helps provide new outdoor experiences and activities which enable campers to create healthy relationships and grow spiritually, personally, and communally.

In June of this year, we were blessed to welcome the Dorweiler family—including veteran CSM camper Owen and his parents, Tim and Karla—to our 2021 Benefit Dinner. Owen shared his testimony that evening, and the entire room was so moved by it that we want share it with you, as well. Owen’s experience at CSM is a perfect example of our mission in action.

(READ Owen’s testimony to the right or below this copy.)

We are blessed by Owen’s testimony and we hope you are, as well. It is precisely these opportunities of friendship, adventure, prayer, and fun that have been the backbone of CSM for over 85 years.

Because of your prayers and financial support, CSM is able to provide these special opportunities for all of our campers!

Your generosity helps to strengthen families. As one parent shared with us:

“We can never fully express how amazing this experience was for our middle school son to be with a group of other kids his age that share a strong faith.  To share the love, joy, relevancy and adventure of God and our faith is a gift that can never be repaid.”

We thank you in advance for partnering with us to the change the lives of so many children and grandchildren. Let us share with you some of our plans for 2022, through your kindness:

  1. Continue renovation and rebuilding of the beach due to high water;
  2. Replace the riding rings at the corral;
  3. Re-shingle the roofs on a couple camper cabins; and
  4. Repair ropes course elements.

Would you help us with a donation—the most generous you are able? Your contribution to our Annual Appeal enables us to complete these projects and continue to see the fruits of CSM grow and flourish in our campers for many years to come, strengthening families along the way.

And your gifts have an impact. By contributing to our Annual Appeal, not only do you help us with these special projects, but you are bridging the gap between the cost of a camper attending CSM and the cost of tuition. Your generosity also helps fund scholarships for kids who otherwise couldn’t attend CSM. Thank you, on behalf of our campers and their families!

Together let us give thanks and rejoice in the Lord who has blessed each of us with so much and in so many ways. May God bless you and your loved ones during this season of giving and thanks, always.

P.S. We ask you to prayerfully consider supporting CSM with a generous donation. Would you make your gift today? Through your kindness, CSM will continue to meet the deepest needs of today’s youth by forming and transforming young lives. Your response today to this year’s appeal will provide young people an opportunity to grow spiritually, personally and communally. Your gift will help change lives! Because we do not receive financial backing from any of the Catholic dioceses or have our own “parishioners” to help us, we are especially grateful for your generosity. Thank you! God bless you.

“Hello, my name is Owen, and I’m a junior at U of D Jesuit High School. The first time I attended Camp was the summer of 2018, between 7th and 8th grade. I came with the boys in my class, not knowing what to expect. I had been to Boy Scout camps before, but a faith-based camp was a whole new experience for me. That year, Camp ended up being the best week of my summer.

“CSM is a special place where you have tons of fun while seeking God in a way that’s hard to do in everyday life. You make friends that share your beliefs and truly want to be Christ to others—some of which I still keep in touch with today, and even if I don’t, I know that I can always ask them for prayers and support if I need it. The counselors are awesome and are just as excited about being there as the campers. But most importantly they want the campers to have a relationship with God, and they share their own faith journey, so that both the counselors and campers are seeking God together, which is an amazing dynamic.

“Every evening we gather for night prayer, and I remember the first night I spent at camp. It was dark outside, and quiet, and we were all gathered into the chapel. The music started, and I felt a rush of joy and peace, because at that moment I realized that this is what Heaven will be like. One night during adoration, one of my friends who was normally not emotional had a sort of breakdown, and some of us gathered around to comfort him. It was so powerful, and we could feel the Holy Spirit in the room.

“Camp isn’t all in the chapel though. High ropes is awesome, and CSM has one of the best high ropes courses I’ve ever done. The horses are really special, and they allow campers to try something different that they don’t have access to at home. There’s so much more that I could get into, from the beach to the famed Novo Games, but the gist is this: that Camp Sancta Maria provides tons of fun grounded in Christ, and it really makes an impact on the campers’ lives to the point that CSM becomes a second home.

“I attended again in the summer of 2019, this time for two weeks. One of my favorite memories was helping out with music during night prayer. I am very grateful that I could be a part of drawing others closer to God. Also, on the 4th of July we were awoken by the cannon used during flag raising (thank you, counselors) and later had a barbeque while we watched fireworks on the beach. Long story short, I had a blast and made a lot more friends since I didn’t have any going in that time.

“I was so disappointed when Camp was cancelled last year [in 2020 due to COVID-19], but around this time I was planning my Eagle Scout service project for Boy Scouts. When I needed to find a benefactor, I immediately thought of Camp because they do such amazing work and have had an impact on so many people. I met with Mr. Kuhar [CSM’s Executive Director], and after months of planning, getting supplies, and building, my dad and I drove the 4 hours up to camp and delivered three picnic tables for use outside the mess hall. It was a lot of work but totally worth it for a camp that has such a special place in my heart.

“In summary, I am just so grateful for the chance to go to Camp. Even though this will be my last year because I will age out, I hope to be a junior counselor in the future so I can continue to be a part of the ministry that CSM provides. Going to Camp Sancta Maria has become something that I and so many others look forward to, and I can only imagine how different my summer and my life would be if Camp did not exist. With that said, I pray that CSM can reach its financial goal so that it can continue to impact other people’s lives and help lead them to Christ as it has for me.”

Please join us as we remember CSM alumnus Trevor Kyriakoza, who went home to be with our Lord on August 19, 2021, at the tender age of 30.

Some of you may remember Trevor, who was both a camper and a counselor between 2002 and 2009.

If you wish to send a card of condolence, please mail it to Camp (PO Box 613; Washington, MI 48094) and we will forward it to his family.

In love and friendship, we share in the sorrow of the entire Kyriakoza family. The continued prayers of your CSM family are with you.

Eternal rest grant unto Trevor, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Through monthly donations, Camp Champions provide CSM with a consistent and reliable source of funding that allows us a financial foundation to plan ahead. When you become a Camp Champion, you join a special group of people making a big impact with small gifts to help change children’s lives. Thank you!

Will you partner with us as we TAKE AIM
at exciting new programs at CSM?

The cancellation of our day trip to Mackinac Island due to COVID-19 restrictions has given us an opportunity to explore some new action-packed programs for our campers right on the grounds of CSM.

Enter archery tag, which combines elements of dodgeball or other challenge-type games with the timeless skills of archery. Players take aim at each other with non-lethal soft foam-tipped arrows to score points or eliminate opposing team members. Our campers will enjoy the adventure and adrenaline rush, while moms and dads will appreciate the family-friendly nature of this unique sport.

Our new archery tag program is for the kiddos, but you can join in the fun vicariously by helping us purchase the best quality equipment. Together we can build the safest equipment and most thrilling archery tag program possible for our children and grandchildren.
